No ... this is not a snow covered tree. This is a 21st Century Black and White infrared photograph (IR) of a Young peach tree in the village of Krška Vas, Slovenia, in the spring time when the leaves are just beginning to be put out.
Photograph made with an infrared converted Nikon Z6 Camera with a 720 nm external filter.
Krška Vas is a small farming village (population 496 in the 2002 census) at the termination of the Dolensjka Valley. It is situated on the Krka river near the confluence with the Sava River.
The function of Infrared Photography is not to render the world as we see it, but rather to use light, dark and false color to enhance texture and composition. The invisible infrared light has a profound influence on the texture of the sky and clouds that is not seen in visible light photography. Since young green leaves are an excellent reflector of Infrared light they come out white in the infrared photograph.
