Description
Herzstein Hall was originally the Physic Hall on the Rice University campus. It is designed with a Byzantine architectural style. Photograph was taken with a Nikon D810.
The Physics Building was the first building (1914) to be completed after the formal opening of the university and was also designed by Cram, Goodhue & Ferguson. Harold A. Wilson, one of President Lovett's star faculty recruits, influenced the building design and chose the laboratory equipment. People standing in the acoustic niches on either side of the main doors can whisper to each other without being overheard by people standing between them. The Physics Building was later renamed to Herzstein Hall. With modern technical requirements the Physics department was moved to a new facility, The Brockman Hall for Physics, built in 2011.
