Description
This is a 21st Century False Color infrared photograph of the a lazy branch of the Pedernales river in Johnson City, Texas. Downstream the Pedernales turns into the better known rough and tumble river that passes through the Pedernales Falls State Park, but here it gently meanders across Texas meadows.
he name "Pedernales", first used in the middle 18th century, comes from a Spanish word for the flint rocks characteristic of the riverbed. The river has a close association with the Texas Hill Country, tied to the history of the region and emblematic of its geography.
Infrared Photography is an interpretation of reality with light not seen with the human eye in the near-infrared energy range. Ever since the first infrared photographs appeared over a century ago, the aesthetic has fascinated viewers with its otherworldly images. Making regular landscapes seem psychedelic and alien, the style is currently undergoing a resurgence in popularity as digital cameras have allowed a new generation to experiment with capturing different infrared wavelengths.
