Description
Parc Montmorency is a park located in Quebec City and home to Parliaments of Lower Canada, Canada East and Quebec from 1791 to 1883. It is named for Duke of Montmorency.
The Montmorency Falls is a waterfall located at the mouth of the Montmorency River , where it flows through the cliffs in the St. Lawrence River , opposite the the west end of Île d'Orléans . The fall, 83 meters high, is the highest in the province of Quebec and exceeds Niagara Falls by 30 meters. The depth of the basin at the foot of the falls is seventeen meters. The falls are located inside the Parc de la Chute-Montmorency , a tourist center managed by SÉPAQ . Stairs (487 steps) allow to observe it from different angles. A suspension bridge with a spectacular view connects the two sides of the park. There is also a cable car that transports visitors between the base and the top of the falls. In the winter, the water vapor solidifies on the edge of the waterfall, which becomes a popular ice climbing site and creates a large mass of ice (the sugar loaf) in front of the waterfall.
